What Is Actually in a Newborn Starter Set?
Starter sets vary far more than the name suggests, and the piece count is the thing to check before you buy.
Set sizes and what they cover
4 to 5 pieces — a top-up, not a wardrobe. Usually a shirt, a nekker and a cap. Useful as a gift or to fill a gap, but you will still need to buy the rest separately.
6 to 8 pieces — the middle option. Generally adds a second outfit and sometimes a bib or booties.
9 to 12 pieces — the closest to a real first wardrobe. These usually include a wrapping sheet, multiple shirt and nekker pairs, a cap and small accessories. These are the sets people buy when shopping for someone else.
None of them replaces a full checklist. Even a 12-piece box will not give you the 6-8 shirts a newborn actually gets through, so most parents pair a set with separate vests and nekkers.
Summer sets and winter sets
Summer sets are thin cotton with half sleeves — right for most of the year across Pakistan. Winter sets use warmer fabric with full sleeves and usually include a cap. If the baby is due between November and February, start with a winter set and add layers from the winter collection.
What size to order
Most sets are made for 0-3 or 0-6 months. Nobody knows how big the baby will be, so many parents order a 0-3 set before delivery and a larger size afterwards once they can see the actual fit. Nothing is wasted — the bigger size gets used a few weeks later regardless.
